Michigan College Access Network offers multiple AmeriCorps opportunities for individuals to serve their community and improve educational equity in our state.  Individuals commit to a term of service — usually a year but sometimes less — and serve full time during that term.

College Completion Corps

Do you want to help college students succeed on campus and earn their degree or credential?

MCAN's College Completion Corps trains and places coaches on partner college campuses across Michigan. As a Completion Coach, each full-time member serves a campus-defined cohort of 100-150 students who are first-generation, low-income, and/or students of color, with a focus on college persistence and completion. Coaches work with students to complete success plans, connect to on- and off-campus resources, and overcome barriers to completion. Coaches are mentors, cheerleaders, and advocates! 

Degrees required: Associate degree

Experience required: None

Locations: select community college campuses throughout Michigan

Perfect for: recent college grads, mid-level professionals seeking a career change, individuals who want a career in higher education or nonprofit, retirees who still want to be connected and are open to full-time employment for one year, folks who want Michigan students to succeed!

AdviseMI

Do you want to help high school students explore their postsecondary options and decide on a next step that's best for them?

AdviseMI trains and places advisers in selected high schools across Michigan to serve as college advisers. Advisers focus on working with students who would be first in their family to go to college, students of color, and students from low-income backgrounds to overcome barriers to college access. Advisers believe that college is posecondary education (bachelor's, associate, and certificates) and college is for everyone! Serving alongside high school counselors and other school professionals, advisers support students as they make the transition from high school to postsecondary education. 

Degrees required: Bachelor's degree

Experience required: None

Locations: select high schools throughout Michigan

AmeriCorps VISTA

Do you want experience to help a state-wide organization meet our mission and support our network? 

MCAN employs AmeriCorps VISTAs in our Lansing office  to support a variety of statewide college access work. VISTAs spend a year working in our dynamic high-energy office seeing what goes on behind the scenes as we seek to make systemic change to help more Michiganders to and through college. 

Degrees required: Associate degree or Bachelor's degree

Experience required: None

Locations: MCAN office in downtown Lansing
